Natural Anaerobic Fermentation
Grape Hubba Bubba, cherry, and coconut.
In the cup: This coffee is a bit of a rule breaker--rarely do we come across a coffee that brings out the best of the natural anaerobic process without stumbling over that acetic acid edge. This makes this coffee pretty darn special, with its unique process, adding creaminess and a complex maturity without detracting from cleanliness and acidity. A shimmering rose-like acidity is quickly enveloped by a thick, rich body, with unmistakable purple grape candy and cherry, with a sweet coconut finish.
Where does it come from? This incredible certified organic Uganda Bugisu comes to us from the slopes of the Elgon Mountain Range--spanning three distinct areas covering the Mbale, Sironko, and Kapchorwa districts. Sloping undulating territory in the region produces a mixture of altitudes, with coffee grown in this district ranging from 1300 masl in the South to 1900 masl in the Central and Northern Districts.
Sipi Falls Coffee Project: The picturesque waterfalls that feed and nourish the Mount Elgon National Park are part of an ecosystem of symbiotic relationships that have grown and flourished over many years. The Sipi Falls Coffee project began in 1999 and has steadily grown to incorporate more than 5000 smallholder producers tending an area of over 2000 hectares. Much like the river systems that support the project, the Sipi Falls Coffee Project touches the lives of some 3.5 million families through direct or auxiliary links.
Support: The Sipi Falls Coffee Project offers training that supports the continued improvement of agronomic practices. Field officers work as part of the project to mentor members, covering everything from efficient resource recycling, organic standards, community education, and reinvestment to internal control systems. At its core, the role of field officers is to foster an understanding of the mutually beneficial prosperity that comes from responsible and sustainable agricultural practices.
We're so proud to represent this coffee for how it drinks, what it stands for, and the many families it supports.
