Altitude: 1200-1820

Varietal: Bourbon

Processing Method: Natural

Located in the northwest region of Rwanda, at the shore of Lake Kivu, Mushonyi coffee washing station (MWS) is about one hour from Rubavu city by car. The many hills that surround the station add to the already bucolic view, which includes a glimpse of the beautiful Lake Kivu. Rwanda's rich volcanic soils, rainfall distribution, and clement yearlong temperatures favour the slow maturation of the fruit, creating a distinctive taste in the cup. At the MWS, over 1200 smallholder farmers—32% of whom are women—contribute their crops to this coffee. Growers bringing coffee to MWS are provided with training and resources by RWACOF through 'Farm Field Schools', demo plots, and free access to coffee nurseries. Educational programs and support include best agricultural practices, sustainable farming, business and economics information, and social well-being. The knowledge passion and pride sing through this happening little coffee. It’s a special thing when a coffee not only tastes good but also does good.

Notes of sweet yellow plum and purple grape move to notes of toffee, caramel, and nutmeg. Crisp acidity and sweet milky notes linger.
